Many people are confused by the different versions that are available and what the differences are between them. The main difference between the Version 1 and 2 R4 DS cards is that v1 had a spring loaded Micro SD slot. These slots were found to be unreliable and as such were removed from the design of the R4 Revolution v2 cards. Both of these versions can only handle a maximum capacity of a 2GB Micro SD card. The R4 SDHC version which is the next generation can handle a maximum of 8GB Micro SD, enabling it to read the SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) format which is the format for almost all 4GB and upwards SD and Micro SD cards. It is important to note that all the different versions above do require different software, this is talked about in more detail on the R4 software download page.

The R4DS card is the top selling third party DS SLOT 1 cartridge for the Nintendo DS and DS lite. The cartridge is exactly the same size as the standard Nintendo card and will fit into your DS in the same manner as the original. The R4 cartridge accepts Micro SD cards up to 16GB depending on which version you have. All software and data is stored on the micro SD card which will enable R4 to function and turn your DS into a media centre with a multitude of features that will become available to you. We have created a list below of the new features that will be available to you:

Video Player – Store and view Pictures and movies

MP3 player – store and listen to your favourite tracks

Web browser

Word Processer

Play homebrew games

The real benefits of the R4 Revolution are having all of the above available for you at one time through the one device, add the ability to store pictures, movies, music and being able to backup your games on the Micro SD card means that you can travel light when going on holiday with your Nintendo DS.
